The First and the Best MUN Conference in My Life!!
Yesterday was our MUN conference. Before the conference I was very concerned about whether the conference would be successful or not, because last week there were 7 students got H1N1 in Mingdao, so the school had to be closed for one week. A day after that there came a big typhoon. All things just not in the right way. When we were back in school on Wednesday, we had to catch up the schedule so the teachers went through everything with us quickly. we researched all our country's information and wrote the position paper. Finally, the day of the MUN conference has came, everyone dressed officially. This time, with no doubt, we had the real MUN conference. I could feel all the nervous in the atmosphere. When the confernence began, enryone showed out their proffesion, and I was so surprised. I was very pleased that we didn't forget the speaking skills Mr.G taught us. The first and the second session all went very smoothly. We were very happy to release all the pressure in the end, cause it's over.
This would be the best MUN conference forever!!
Thank you Mr.G, Mr.M, Ms. Lucy, and all the GCP8 and GCP9 students!!!
Best day EVER... no doubt.
Today's MUN conference was absolutely AMAZING. I was surprised to learn that many of the students had great potential to be a leader. I want to say to everyone: We ROCKED!
Special thanks to Mr. G, who changed my point of view completely! Now I know that I can PROJECT my voice, and be confident while talking to a group of people. Mr. God, you really changed my life! And thanks to Miss Lucy, who is really kind... thank you so much for your patience and your wonderful classes. Now I'll always remember that science is EVERYWHERE! Also thanks to Mr. Marzo. you are so humorous that I smile just thinking about you! Your literature classes are awesome, especially the stories!
To say that the days we spent together was great is like saying Shakespeare was simply a writer. I can not fully describe my gratitude and happiness because I don't know enough vocabulary to do it. Please always remember us, for we definitly will not forget you guys anytime soon. We will miss you loads! And please do come back, or we'll have to go and find you!
Thank you sooo.... much
Mr. G, Ms. Lucy and Mr. M
Thanks for teaching us! I really appreciate.
Mr. G, you're the best teacher. I enjoyed a lot in your classes. You're very humorous, nice, and smart. About the one minute speech, at first, I was very nervous and didn't know what to say. After all, I felt that's not what I 've thought and it's not really that hard.
Ms. Lucy, you're a very nice teacher. Every day you come to school, you dress up beautiful. In the physical science class, I like the '' Boom '' Gummy Bear and the Glue Glop experiments. That's the most unforgettable and happy experience that
I have in the lab.
Mr. M, you're also a humorous teacher. You always talk '' Long.... Story'' in the class. I think that is one of your characteristics. I enjoyed in the literature class.
Today is your last day to teach us. I hope you enjoyed these days in Taiwan. Don't blame at H1N1 and the typhoon. I wish we'll meet next year.
P.S. Have Fun!! Adios!!
Mr. G Mr. M and Mrs. Lucy
MUN Conference
MUN cool !!!
Today when I went to school,I saw everyone in our class dressed up very nice, especially Max. We're all ready for the MUN conference. Before the conference started, every person was reading their position papers. We all wanted to have a really nice, professional and successful conference.
At 8:35 the conference started. The first session was about '' Child Labor.'' Dean and I were the vice chairs. When I was speaking to all the countries, I was not nervous because this time I've already prepare a lot. During the conference, we're busy because we needed to write down the names of the countries, went around the room and saw how's going on. Although it's busy, I felt very happy. The reason was we did really good on the job that a chair needs to do.
The second session was about '' Nuclear Disarmament.'' My country is The State Of Qatar. While I was reading the position paper, I felt very confident. I remembered what Mr. G had said,'' The more you talk, the more your country will win.'' He also said that we needed to speak out loud and projected out voices. These words really encourage me a lot. I think the most excited part was to debate with other countries. Every country was active to get the chances to motion and talked about their opinions.
Finally, the conference ended. Everyone did really good. I remembered in the beginning of the MUN class, almost everyone was shy and nervous. But today, we improved a lot in such a short time. I hoped that in the future, we can have other conferences about the issues. I really enjoyed the conference and the classes.
Today's MUN meeting was...so~ fun!!!!!
I was really nervous when I need to stand to be Bangladesh...
Because I was the second group to have this meeting, so I could see how the first group go through at it. I felt more comfortable after they done the meeting, but this time was my turn! I sat down the chair, and....ah! I was so~nervous! When it is my turn to spoke to the countries, I read the position paper with my hands shaking. When China spoke for their thoughts, Chad was raising their name card for fight back about what China said. The game started....because of Chad came first to fight back, other countries started to debate. Our country join the debating too~that was so fun to debate with other countries...I thought this time, I had a wonderful experience for the MUN meetings.

Reminder for tomorrow
This is Mr. Gibson. I want to remind everyone about our MUN Conference tomorrow. Boys, you are expected to wear black shoes, blacks socks, a dress shirt and a tie. If you can not get a tie, you may wear a polo shirt instead. Girls, you are to wear black shoes. You may wear either your school uniform skirt or your school uniform pants and a nice dress shirt or a blouse. Again, if you do not have any of these ask one of your friends, Teacher Tia, or myself and we will help you out.
If you are changing your position papers, please bring three copies tomorrow. One for you, one for your partner, and one for Mr. G and myself. For our South Korea and Brazil delegates, you must complete your position papers tonight. Be prepared to make good arguments on behalf of your country. Remember, you are not arguing what you, personally, think is a good idea. You are arguing what your country thinks is a good idea. Be prepared to debate with other countries and find other countries who agree with you during caucus.
Remember to be confident and speak loudly (from your stomach). We will not have any microphones. You must project your voice across the room. Remember what Mr. G. taught you...body language says a lot. We will spend almost the entire morning doing our two sessions. After wards, we will give out awards. Last but not least, remember to have fun! Model UN is meant to be a fun and exciting activity.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
Mr. Gibson, Mr. G., Mr. Marzo, Ms. Lucy, Teacher Tia and the entire Ming Dao Staff
GCP =)) FUN!!!!
In the GCP, we have lots of interesting things (baseball games, singing, talk about singers and some movies........).
Though I don't like speech very much, I do feel it is very fun in the MUN class.
Wish you a nice day=)

SHE BLINDED ME WITH SCIENCE!
Miss Lucy Blinded us with ... SCIENCE!
Writing About Physical Properties
Write about your favorite food. Try to describe your favorite food here, without telling what it is. Be sure to use words that appeal to the senses (sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste) so that you will be describing the physical properties of your favorite food.
My example:
My favorite food is round. It feels warm and depending on what's on it, it can be soft, slimy, and/or crispy. You cook it in a oven. It's crunchy or chewy, depending on what type of crust you have. It has both sweetness and acidic flavors from the sauce. The cheese makes it rich and satisfying. Then... the toppings! It might be something really FRESH like veggies ... peppers and onions and mushrooms ... or meaty and spicy, like pepperoni or sausage. Or meaty but more mellow, maybe ham or ground beef.
What is my favorite food????

Ni hao Mingdao xue sheng
I am Mr. Gibson. I am a new teacher here at Mingdao. I will be your full time Model UN, Cultural Explorations and World History teacher for the 2009-10 school year. I am 23 years old. My home is St. Louis, MO, United States. I have been teaching for three years. Last year, I taught English in Korean International School of Qingdao in Qingdao, China. Before that I taught at Cape Girardeau Junior and Senior High School back in the United States. My favorite foods are mom's lasagna, kim chi, sushi, baozi, and salmon. My hobbies include canoeing, hiking, playing basketball, playing music, and listening to music (especially The Beatles, The Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, Cake, and The Who).
Today, 2009/08/12, I will being teaching at Mingdao. I am going to help Mr. G with Model UN and begin teaching Cultural Explorations. For those of you in Model UN, I hope you are as excited about it as Mr. G. and I are! You can think of Model UN as a mini Olympic Games where each of you compete for a different country. Instead of racing each other or playing ping pong, you compete by trying to write the best solution to a problem and then convincing other coutries to vote for your solution. it is a fun, exciting way to learn about our world, while also learning how to think critically, gain confindence speaking in public, improve our English, and apply stuff we read about in class.
I am very happy to be here in Taichung, and I look forward to teaching all of you!
Hen gao xing ren shi ni men!

Students...True Stars of Mingdao's Global Citizenship Program
Typhoon Breakfast
I am sitting in the hotel restaurant, sipping my hot coffee, looking out the window and gazing onto the city as a typhoon sweeps through Taiwan. I suppose the Christmas music (Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas) playing, even though its August, in the background adds a dramatic effect to an already suspenseful natural phenomenon. :o/ The wind ferociously pounding on the window made it very difficult to sleep last night. The building across from me is newly constructed and comprised of nothing more than steel frames. Ironically, there are two men walking the floors of what appears to be the 30th floors. I see no safety wires on them and i anxiously watch them as the wind persists ripping through the mesh protecting tools and equipment from flying into the sky. I can't help to ask what is protecting the men from being blown off the building?

Typhoon coming
we are on news again= =
teacher tia came in a few minutes later and forced us to put on masks.......ugh!! sooo hot!!!
after, kelly gini and i helped bring the paper boxes from the office so that we could put our books in to prevent the workers spraying anti-virus thingy on it. our class was always cooperated, especially this time. everyone, including the new classmates, help put the heavy text book in the boxes and pile them up beside the walls.
when it was lunch time the school buses came in and sent all of us home ......(sigh*)
cant believe we misses a whole week of class because the teachers are really good....
today morning i saw the news on apple daily and suddenly our school became famous everyone came to me and asked about the issue= =

Teachers from the United States!!
Teachers from the United States have come to our class for two days. Only two days have passed and I felt that I have already learned a lot. The first class we had was biology. The teacher was very nice and we learned how important it is to learn science. The next class we had was MUN. Our class had MUN before, and the last MUN class with another teacher wasn't really pleasant. But Mr. G was very interesting and all of us had a great time during MUN. The speech during MUN kind of freaked me out, but everyone turned out with something to say. English literature class is good too. We learned about how to write a good story and how to write it with full detail. Mr. M was very nice as well. He had a lot of patience when he was trying to help me with my account. All of the teachers are really patient and nice. :)
hello
Fun in MUN!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@ . @

jason a diary
Ummm...
fabulous courses and fabulous teachers
MUN....FUN!
we had a super nervous moment during the first period, because Mr.G suddenly said that we are going to do a speech with any title we like. Everyone including me went "what!!!!!" because ....i don't know, but actually everyone did pretty well. especially Annie because she has the loudest voice and she did body language that totally interested us.
The speech contest finally ended when the bell rang. After the students from china came to the class we watched two videos about body language, we also questioned our teacher to spot out the liar but it's so hard.^ ^
All I can say is: WOW!
MUN+ Mr.G = FUN !?
Finally,MUN class became fun to me!
Global Citizens Program Reflections
As guest teachers to the Global Citizenship Program at Mingdao High School, we are very excited to be here and teach students that are very helpful, eager to participate, and respectful of one another’s opinions. Global Citizens require passion and awareness, two qualities that are evident among these unique students. Additionally, the administration has demonstrated equal levels of energy and willingness to partner with us in order to implement innovative teaching strategies. It is our hope that with this Blog we continue to maintain communication throughout the years.
