The First and the Best MUN Conference in My Life!!

Yesterday was our MUN conference. Before the conference I was very concerned about whether the conference would be successful or not, because last week there were 7 students got H1N1 in Mingdao, so the school had to be closed for one week. A day after that there came a big typhoon. All things just not in the right way. When we were back in school on Wednesday, we had to catch up the schedule so the teachers went through everything with us quickly. we researched all our country's information and wrote the position paper. Finally, the day of the MUN conference has came, everyone dressed officially. This time, with no doubt, we had the real MUN conference. I could feel all the nervous in the atmosphere. When the confernence began, enryone showed out their proffesion, and I was so surprised. I was very pleased that we didn't forget the speaking skills Mr.G taught us. The first and the second session all went very smoothly. We were very happy to release all the pressure in the end, cause it's over.

This would be the best MUN conference forever!!
Thank you Mr.G, Mr.M, Ms. Lucy, and all the GCP8 and GCP9 students!!!

Best day EVER... no doubt.

Today's MUN conference was absolutely AMAZING. I was surprised to learn that many of the students had great potential to be a leader. I want to say to everyone: We ROCKED!

Special thanks to Mr. G, who changed my point of view completely! Now I know that I can PROJECT my voice, and be confident while talking to a group of people. Mr. God, you really changed my life! And thanks to Miss Lucy, who is really kind... thank you so much for your patience and your wonderful classes. Now I'll always remember that science is EVERYWHERE! Also thanks to Mr. Marzo. you are so humorous that I smile just thinking about you! Your literature classes are awesome, especially the stories!

To say that the days we spent together was great is like saying Shakespeare was simply a writer. I can not fully describe my gratitude and happiness because I don't know enough vocabulary to do it. Please always remember us, for we definitly will not forget you guys anytime soon. We will miss you loads! And please do come back, or we'll have to go and find you!

Thank you sooo.... much

Today we had our MUN conference. To be honest, at first I wasn't sure if the conference is going to succeed or not. I was scared that no one is going to talk and we would look silly. But at the end, it seemed that there is no need to worry. This was the first MUN conference for all of us, and within a short of time, we could already have our own small conference. Our committee about child labor was first and we were nervous. I was trembling and I was shaking all over while I read our country's position paper, but I gained confidence and I felt more confortable as the conference went on. We didn't quite know how to debate, we wanted to reply other country's questions, but we thought we aren't allowed to do that. When we saw the second group debate, we knew that we could do a lot more than we did before. I believe that after the conference we did today, we would get the memorable experience and we would do a lot much better in the future.
I have to thank Mr. G, Mr. Marzo, and Ms. Lucy for teaching us so much things and giving us such a warm and happy memory. Mr. G, it was such a great time in your classes. You guided us and we will follow automatically. Step by step, we had learned a lot about MUN and I have to thank you for teaching us how to have a succeeded MUN conference. I have to say that you are one of the BEST teachers I've ever met. You really are a god in our hearts and now I love MUN because of your wonderful classes.
Mr. Marzo, it was a great time in your literature class too. Remember when you talked about important parts of the story? You used a table in our class and pretended that it was an obstacle. You are very humorous and you are a nice, and patient teacher. I would never forget when we worked together and figured out how to login my gmail account. You proved that literature can be fun and interesting.
Ms. Lucy, you have the one of the best smiles I've ever seen. One smile from you can warm our hearts. It was a short time with you but a lot of memories. The gummy bear and glue glop experiment was very interesting. I hated chemistry before, but you made me change my mind. I thought chemistry is only all about weird chemicals and memorizing some things that do not make any sense to me. But you proved to me that I was wrong. Chemistry is fun and it kind of make some sense to me. The two experiments we did together is one of the most interesting experiments we have done before.
I would never forget the time we have had together and I hope all of you enjoy your life in Mindao High School, and of course in Taiwan. I hope you can all come to Taiwan again and fill us with knowledge and great memories.

Mr. G, Ms. Lucy and Mr. M

Thanks for teaching us! I really appreciate.
Mr. G, you're the best teacher. I enjoyed a lot in your classes. You're very humorous, nice, and smart. About the one minute speech, at first, I was very nervous and didn't know what to say. After all, I felt that's not what I 've thought and it's not really that hard.

Ms. Lucy, you're a very nice teacher. Every day you come to school, you dress up beautiful. In the physical science class, I like the '' Boom '' Gummy Bear and the Glue Glop experiments. That's the most unforgettable and happy experience that
I have in the lab.

Mr. M, you're also a humorous teacher. You always talk '' Long.... Story'' in the class. I think that is one of your characteristics. I enjoyed in the literature class.

Today is your last day to teach us. I hope you enjoyed these days in Taiwan. Don't blame at H1N1 and the typhoon. I wish we'll meet next year.
P.S. Have Fun!! Adios!!

Mr. G Mr. M and Mrs. Lucy

Thank you for teaching us for these past days, I think that your class was fun. I hope that you have a great trip back to L.A!

MUN Conference

I think that the MUN confrence was the funnest we had in the past week! I like the part where we say ya or nay because it was funny how we fought back China, well I hope we can do it again next year.

MUN cool !!!

Today when I went to school,I saw everyone in our class dressed up very nice, especially Max. We're all ready for the MUN conference. Before the conference started, every person was reading their position papers. We all wanted to have a really nice, professional and successful conference.

At 8:35 the conference started. The first session was about '' Child Labor.'' Dean and I were the vice chairs. When I was speaking to all the countries, I was not nervous because this time I've already prepare a lot. During the conference, we're busy because we needed to write down the names of the countries, went around the room and saw how's going on. Although it's busy, I felt very happy. The reason was we did really good on the job that a chair needs to do.

The second session was about '' Nuclear Disarmament.'' My country is The State Of Qatar. While I was reading the position paper, I felt very confident. I remembered what Mr. G had said,'' The more you talk, the more your country will win.'' He also said that we needed to speak out loud and projected out voices. These words really encourage me a lot. I think the most excited part was to debate with other countries. Every country was active to get the chances to motion and talked about their opinions.

Finally, the conference ended. Everyone did really good. I remembered in the beginning of the MUN class, almost everyone was shy and nervous. But today, we improved a lot in such a short time. I hoped that in the future, we can have other conferences about the issues. I really enjoyed the conference and the classes.

Today's MUN meeting was...so~ fun!!!!!

I was really nervous when I need to stand to be Bangladesh...
Because I was the second group to have this meeting, so I could see how the first group go through at it. I felt more comfortable after they done the meeting, but this time was my turn! I sat down the chair, and....ah! I was so~nervous! When it is my turn to spoke to the countries, I read the position paper with my hands shaking. When China spoke for their thoughts, Chad was raising their name card for fight back about what China said. The game started....because of Chad came first to fight back, other countries started to debate. Our country join the debating too~that was so fun to debate with other countries...I thought this time, I had a wonderful experience for the MUN meetings.

Reminder for tomorrow

Ni hao everyone,

This is Mr. Gibson. I want to remind everyone about our MUN Conference tomorrow. Boys, you are expected to wear black shoes, blacks socks, a dress shirt and a tie. If you can not get a tie, you may wear a polo shirt instead. Girls, you are to wear black shoes. You may wear either your school uniform skirt or your school uniform pants and a nice dress shirt or a blouse. Again, if you do not have any of these ask one of your friends, Teacher Tia, or myself and we will help you out.

If you are changing your position papers, please bring three copies tomorrow. One for you, one for your partner, and one for Mr. G and myself. For our South Korea and Brazil delegates, you must complete your position papers tonight. Be prepared to make good arguments on behalf of your country. Remember, you are not arguing what you, personally, think is a good idea. You are arguing what your country thinks is a good idea. Be prepared to debate with other countries and find other countries who agree with you during caucus.

Remember to be confident and speak loudly (from your stomach). We will not have any microphones. You must project your voice across the room. Remember what Mr. G. taught you...body language says a lot. We will spend almost the entire morning doing our two sessions. After wards, we will give out awards. Last but not least, remember to have fun! Model UN is meant to be a fun and exciting activity.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

Mr. Gibson, Mr. G., Mr. Marzo, Ms. Lucy, Teacher Tia and the entire Ming Dao Staff

Smile for the camera

SHE BLINDED ME WITH SCIENCE!

Miss Lucy Blinded us with ... SCIENCE!

Writing About Physical
Properties

Write about your favorite food. Try to describe your favorite food here, without telling what it is. Be sure to use words that appeal to the senses (sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste) so that you will be describing the physical properties of your favorite food.

My example:
My favorite food is round. It feels warm and depending on what's on it, it can be soft, slimy, and/or crispy. You cook it in a oven. It's crunchy or chewy, depending on what type of crust you have. It has both sweetness and acidic flavors from the sauce. The cheese makes it rich and satisfying. Then... the toppings! It might be something really FRESH like veggies ... peppers and onions and mushrooms ... or meaty and spicy, like pepperoni or sausage. Or meaty but more mellow, maybe ham or ground beef.

What is my favorite food????

Ni hao Mingdao xue sheng

Ni hao,

I am Mr. Gibson. I am a new teacher here at Mingdao. I will be your full time Model UN, Cultural Explorations and World History teacher for the 2009-10 school year. I am 23 years old. My home is St. Louis, MO, United States. I have been teaching for three years. Last year, I taught English in Korean International School of Qingdao in Qingdao, China. Before that I taught at Cape Girardeau Junior and Senior High School back in the United States. My favorite foods are mom's lasagna, kim chi, sushi, baozi, and salmon. My hobbies include canoeing, hiking, playing basketball, playing music, and listening to music (especially The Beatles, The Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, Cake, and The Who).

Today, 2009/08/12, I will being teaching at Mingdao. I am going to help Mr. G with Model UN and begin teaching Cultural Explorations. For those of you in Model UN, I hope you are as excited about it as Mr. G. and I are! You can think of Model UN as a mini Olympic Games where each of you compete for a different country. Instead of racing each other or playing ping pong, you compete by trying to write the best solution to a problem and then convincing other coutries to vote for your solution. it is a fun, exciting way to learn about our world, while also learning how to think critically, gain confindence speaking in public, improve our English, and apply stuff we read about in class.

I am very happy to be here in Taichung, and I look forward to teaching all of you!

Students...True Stars of Mingdao's Global Citizenship Program

With all this chatter about typhoons and H1N1, I thought I would post some pictures of our first couple of days at the GCP. I am certain that I speak for Mr. M, Ms. Lucy, and myself when I say that each and every student has made a lasting impression upon all three of us. Similarly, the staff at Mingdao is also very encouraging and help us to do a better job. Collectively, we work to make this experience a very special one for everyone.

Typhoon Breakfast

I am sitting in the hotel restaurant, sipping my hot coffee, looking out the window and gazing onto the city as a typhoon sweeps through Taiwan. I suppose the Christmas music (Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas) playing, even though its August, in the background adds a dramatic effect to an already suspenseful natural phenomenon. :o/ The wind ferociously pounding on the window made it very difficult to sleep last night. The building across from me is newly constructed and comprised of nothing more than steel frames. Ironically, there are two men walking the floors of what appears to be the 30th floors. I see no safety wires on them and i anxiously watch them as the wind persists ripping through the mesh protecting tools and equipment from flying into the sky. I can't help to ask what is protecting the men from being blown off the building?

Typhoon coming

Today we get a typhoon holiday, but since our school is already shut down, this doesn't mean anything to us. I'm still upset about the H1N1 situation and I dreamed of myself getting H1N1 yesterday.. = = This typhoon seemed quite big and the wind outside is howling. The windows from my bedroom is rattling which is very annoying because they woke me up early in the morning. Anyway, I hope nothing scary is going to happen again....

we are on news again= =

yesterday morning kelly came in the class ina hurry and said that she has something to say and that it's very impoortant. i thought i was nothing, but then she said that there are 5 students that got H1N1. everyone was like "what!!!???" because we never thought that would happen.
teacher tia came in a few minutes later and forced us to put on masks.......ugh!! sooo hot!!!
after, kelly gini and i helped bring the paper boxes from the office so that we could put our books in to prevent the workers spraying anti-virus thingy on it. our class was always cooperated, especially this time. everyone, including the new classmates, help put the heavy text book in the boxes and pile them up beside the walls.
when it was lunch time the school buses came in and sent all of us home ......(sigh*)
cant believe we misses a whole week of class because the teachers are really good....

today morning i saw the news on apple daily and suddenly our school became famous everyone came to me and asked about the issue= =

I hate this...

Why is this happening? 5 cases of H1N1 cause the school to shut down, which suppose I should be happy... but I am not!! I am really excited to have more classes of Mr. G, Mr. M, and Ms. Lucy, and now all I can do is stay at home, doing nothing. Why does the school make such a big deal about this? Maybe they are just being careful, but this is not the right time!! I really hate the whole situation~ (angry)

H1N1 in Mingdao ?!

So that's what had happened. 5 Mingdao students got H1N1, so we were forced to wear a mask and couldn't go out of the classroom. The most important thing was that we were forced to go home at 12 o'clock. And the school will close down for a week. Great, now we have time to play pet society, but we lost our opportunity to learn from the three teachers! And i will be in Taipei these days, practicing ice skating and whatever. What I want to say is that I really like school days! And now it's ruined..I mean look at that, how could all these things happened? It's just not fair : (

H1N1

Today Kelly came in and told us a serious thing during our biology class. She told us that 5 people in Mingdao got the swine flu and we don't know if the swine flu had spread through out the school or not. So, the school decided to shut down for 7 days. Everyone was forced to wear a mask and was not allowed to leave the classroom. I thought I would be really happy, but I wasn't, because we will lose 7 days of class which means that we only will have 3 days of classes from the teacher from America. I really wanted to learn a lot from the 3 teachers and the swine flu ruined everything!!! I wish the 3 teachers will not get a bad impression of Taiwan! Please don't get a bad impression!!!

H1N1=go home ~!!!

Because H1N1 spread in the area of the 11th graders, we all have to go home at the lunch time. When Kelly ran inside classroom to told us this news, I was so shock at that moment. But after we pack our books inside the boxes, I thought that it isn't that scary. I was a little excited plus sad inside my mind, cause we have one week don't need to come back to school. Sad cause we didn't learn anything from school in that week, excited because we can relax for a week!

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

OMG this is NOT happening!

Our school let out at noon today because five students had the swine flu. Everyone had to wear masks so the virus won't spread. Our class had to put all our textbooks and stuff in cardboard boxes so the school janitors can disinfect our classroom. Everybody was panicking! We never thought that the swine flu would spread this far. The chances of dying is little, but it's still very frightening for Taiwanese because of the experience we had with SARS. Then, as if we were not scared enough, the school let out another shocking news: they are closing down the school for seven days! Usually we would jump up and down with joy, but not today. Why choose a time like this? I can't believe we have to stay at home for a whole week when we could have learned lots of things from the three awesome teachers! It's really frustrating! I was so looking forward to the biology class today, and the FOUR MUN classes on friday! Note this: I have never never EVER looked forward to a four period class before, and now they are shutting down the school! Please tell me this isn't happening!!

Our Class...

This is GCP 9!!!

Godknows

This Monday is the first time we meet Mr.G, Mr.Marzo, and Miss Lucy. At the beginning we were kind of nervous, but after classes, I think we know them pretty much. At least, we know that teachers will do their best and teach us as much as they could. The first impression of Mr.G to me is he is tall, tough, humor. He is a lot better than our first MUN teacher. Way better. About Mr.Marzo, he teaches good English, and I know he could give us a lot of information about English. But I think teacher can be more humor. I know teacher can do it. P.S(I almost saw 周公in Mr.Marzo's first class.) The last one is Miss Lucy. She also has a lot of knowledge about biology and chemistry. In her class, we need to be attention; otherwise we might miss the note to copy. In fact, we should improve our writing speed because she got so many notes!!
Danny Lan

Teachers from the United States!!

Teachers from the United States have come to our class for two days. Only two days have passed and I felt that I have already learned a lot. The first class we had was biology. The teacher was very nice and we learned how important it is to learn science. The next class we had was MUN. Our class had MUN before, and the last MUN class with another teacher wasn't really pleasant. But Mr. G was very interesting and all of us had a great time during MUN. The speech during MUN kind of freaked me out, but everyone turned out with something to say. English literature class is good too. We learned about how to write a good story and how to write it with full detail. Mr. M was very nice as well. He had a lot of patience when he was trying to help me with my account. All of the teachers are really patient and nice. :)

hello

Hi! My name is Judy Huang, and I am one of the grade nine students in Mingdao High School. I feel nervous and excited for facing those teachers from America; these teachers teach in different way and speak in different way too. So the result is, I need to pay more attention in the class, or I can not follow the instruction from teachers. I hope I can remember those teachers’ name...haha...

Fun in MUN!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@ . @

I think this program make me have lots of fun also learn a lot. Especially the MUN class. This time the MUN class is pretty different than before. Also it is different with what i am thinking. But theres one part I really don't like it. Which is the speech. I hope we can have more fun in these two weeks!~ Wish me good luck.=ˇ=

Fall in LOVE!!

This week we have teachers come from the United States to teach us. The teachers are Mr.G, Mr.Marzo, and Ms. Lucy. I really enjoyed the class and they taught so well that I almost fall in love with the subjects.Anyway......such a great day!

THANK you FOREVER

I just came here for a few days, but I learned a lot from the three teachers and I found that English can be so interesting and wonderful. The three teachers are really friendly and their classes are joyfully. Like teacher Lucy, she taught us why we have to study science and why science is everywhere. Mr.Marzo,I just take three classes with him and I know very very muchabout writing paragraphs. At last, I want to thank Mr.G very much because what's MUN about and let me be interested in it, because I never listened about MUN. I really don't know what I can say,----------------thank you, I think this is a good experience in my life

The most important thing

I 've learned alot in the the past two days and the most importantant thing is that I met two gods today. One is Mr. G and the other is Eric the E-GOD. Mr. G Teach us MUN, he is good at it and E-GOD is my classmates. They are gods.

The exciting days in GCP

Although I just came here for a week, I like the atmosphere in the class and I enjoyed studying here very much. Teachers here are humorous and they care about students a lot. I like the way the teachers teach and I learned a lot these days. I like MUN a lot but every time teacher G will make us very nervous. There is a class Mr. G makes us to prepare a speech in 5 minutes and we need to say it in front of all the 8th graders and 9th graders. This is a big challange and everyone is thinking really hard. Five minutes past, people began to go on the stage to have their speech. Most of us are nervous on the stage. Speaking in front of people is a difficult thing and MUN gives us the opportunity to practise. I like this class very much, it is really exciting. I hope the classes in the future will be more exciting.

New MUN Class : )

I think this program is pretty interesting. I am very impressed by the MUN class. We once had MUN class in seventh grade, but it was terribly complex and everybody was wondering what to search or type for our MUN homework. We were totally confused by the program, so since then, we are afraid of MUN. But this summer is completely different. The MUN class taught by Mr. G is special and it's active and fresh to us, though the speech today made me nervous and my stomach ache. Everyone did a good job in the class. And the body language video is also cool. The lesson is funny and happy! : )

I think I met a "GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD"

In the past two days, I had learned a lot from the three teachers from the United States. Mr G is the greatest, most handsome teacher in the world. People in the USA are sooooooooooo fortunate to have him-- and I like his first name-- E-GOD

jason a diary

This week have the new teacher coming, because I don’t see this three teacher before so I think they are the new teacher has the one girl and two boys the girl name is the teacher Lucy the two boys name is the Mr. Gutierrez (Mr. G), Mr. Marzo (Mr.M) the teacher Lucy is teaching the chemistry and the biology then Mr. Gutierrez (Mr. G) is teaching the MUN then Mr. Marzo (Mr.M) is teaching the English and literature they are the goooooooooood teacher the teacher Lucy is so beautiful Mr. Gutierrez (Mr. G) and Mr. Marzo (Mr.M) is so cool.

Ummm...

Hi, I am Kelly. It was a pleasure to have Mr. G, Mr. M, and Ms. Lucy’s classes. I enjoyed it very much and had learned a lot through only few classes. All three teachers had a different way of teaching, and I liked whatever teacher had done. I am looking forward to Ms. Lucy’s lab class and I guess it would be fun. I wish our class could be more active to get more into the class.

fabulous courses and fabulous teachers

This summer, 3 teachers came to Ming Dao, and they will be the teachers of GCP during summer. Yesterday was their first day, and it seems going well. The 3 teachers are Mr. G , Mr. M , and Ms. Lucy. They are very professional and nice teachers. Their teaching styles are very different from Ming Dao's teachers. Ms. Lucy teaches us biology. She is an Asian, but she speaks English very fluently. Mr. G teaches us MUN. He is a funny guy, and this is the most interesting MUN class I've ever had. Mr. M has a slow tempo, but it seems good too. I really enjoy their classes. I hope we will learn many things in this two weeks of courses. Hohohoho~~~~

MUN....FUN!

This morning we had our second MUN class. i never liked MUN because we all had a terrible memory from a teacher who his name we should never speak of (hehe...it's Taboo). But Mr. G made the class really fun.
we had a super nervous moment during the first period, because Mr.G suddenly said that we are going to do a speech with any title we like. Everyone including me went "what!!!!!" because ....i don't know, but actually everyone did pretty well. especially Annie because she has the loudest voice and she did body language that totally interested us.
The speech contest finally ended when the bell rang. After the students from china came to the class we watched two videos about body language, we also questioned our teacher to spot out the liar but it's so hard.^ ^

All I can say is: WOW!

For two weeks of our summer courses, Mingdao High School invited three teachers from California, USA, to teach GCP students. Our first guest, Miss Lucy, is a very nice and energetic teacher. She teaches us biology and chemistry. Her ways of teaching are just fabulous! Unlike the other science teachers, she made sure that EVERYONE understood what she was saying, and not just talk on and on. Our second teacher, Mr.Marzo, is super-good at literature! Although we learned about "plot, conflicts, and setting" every year, the way that Mr.Marzo taught us helped me understand it the most. He uses a lot of metaphors and descriptions in the class, which is REALLY helpful. Last but not least, we have Mr.G who teaches us MUN. We've had a bad experience with MUN classes, but he totally changed my point of view! He is funny and cool, and explains everything throughly. We also learned about body language, which is important for interviews and dates, and needless to say, the class was so fun! All I can say now is, WOW, these teachers are absolutely amazing!

MUN+ Mr.G = FUN !?

Today during MUN class, Mr.G made us do a speech in 30seconds. We only had 5 mins to think about it. I thought it was gonna be really hard, so I was totally nervous, and I had absolutly no idea what I was going to talk about. Lucky thing was, I thought of a topic just in time, then following the outline Mr.G taught us, I got a speech ready afterall. I guess it isn't really that hard... and now I know what to do when I want to make an easy speech really fast! Then in the second class, we watched video clips about body language, I think the stuff we learned could be really helpful... To tell the truth, I think these MUN classes are fun, and they really are different (and a lot more helpful) than the classes we had in 7th grade. Haha! Finally an interesting MUN class~Thanks to Mr.G...

Finally,MUN class became fun to me!

Today we have a really interesting MUN classes...and guess what, I don't like other teachers' MUN classes ,but I really enjoy Mr.G's MUN classes! I was so~nervous to speech individually...but finally I finished my 30 seconds speech. I enjoy the second class the most because Mr.G let us to see videos about body languages. I love the part about guessing which sentence is a lie. I can't figure out which one is truly the absolutly a lie. I thought MUN can be fun for us if the teacher is the right one. If the wrong teacher, for example, the teacher was not really good at it, his or her MUN classes would totally be boring. So, I hope I we can met some great teachers to teach us and can let everyone love to learn about MUN. I would problably like it if Mr.G continued to teach us....hee hee~~~~

As guest teachers to the Global Citizenship Program at Mingdao High School, we are very excited to be here and teach students that are very helpful, eager to participate, and respectful of one another’s opinions. Global Citizens require passion and awareness, two qualities that are evident among these unique students. Additionally, the administration has demonstrated equal levels of energy and willingness to partner with us in order to implement innovative teaching strategies. It is our hope that with this Blog we continue to maintain communication throughout the years.
